Student data & consent

If your child uses HUBCV through their school, college, or a parent-managed account, this page explains what is recorded about them, how their skills are assessed, and what you control.

It sits alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Where this page and the Privacy Policy describe the same thing, this one is the more specific of the two and is what applies to students.

A child under 13 does not sign up for HUBCV. Their account is created and controlled by a parent or guardian, who accepts our terms on the child's behalf and can see and remove everything on it.

A managed account is restricted to a limited set of pages. Public discovery, direct messaging with people outside their Hub, and open browsing are switched off — not hidden, but blocked before the page loads.

We do not store a full date of birth for anybody. We store a birth year, and only where an age band is needed to apply these restrictions. Adults are not asked for a birthday at all.

Only what their Hub records in the ordinary course of teaching: the courses, events, projects and jobs they are enrolled in; work set for them; marks a teacher enters; attendance a teacher takes; and anything the student themselves chooses to post.

Every one of those entries is attributable — a mark exists because a named person at a named Hub entered it, on a date. Nothing is inferred about a student from their behaviour on the site, and we do not build a profile of them from anything outside their Hub record.

We do not use student data to train models, we do not sell it, and we do not run behavioural advertising to any user, minor or adult.

A skill score is arithmetic over marks a teacher entered. Mastery is the weighted average of every graded result behind that skill — how well, not how much — and it carries a confidence figure showing how much work it rests on.

Where there is too little graded work to judge, we say so. A skill with thin evidence reads "Not measured yet" and shows no number, because a low score and an absent one mean different things and a parent should not have to guess which they are looking at.

Points are a separate figure that measures work done, not ability. They are shown as such and are never presented as a skill level.

A score can always be traced back to the specific pieces of work behind it. If a number looks wrong, it can be checked, and the Hub that entered the marks can correct them.

Career direction is drawn from the skills on a student's record, mapped against a public occupational dataset. It is directional and we present it as such: it shows which fields a record leans toward, without a percentage, and it stays silent when too little of the record maps to anything.

It is not a prediction, an aptitude test, or a recommendation about what a child should study. It should not be used to stream a student, to select them for a programme, or to decide anything about their future on its own.

Mastery figures are comparable within a school, because they come from that school's own marking. They are not calibrated across schools, and should not be used to compare students at different institutions.

No automated decision with a legal or similarly significant effect on a student is made by HUBCV. A human at the Hub decides admissions, placements and grades.

For a parent-managed account, the parent or guardian consents when they create the account and can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting it.

Where a school provisions accounts for its students, the school is responsible for obtaining the consent its own law requires before adding a student, and for telling parents that it has done so. We provide this page so schools can point parents at a plain description of what they are agreeing to.

Withdrawing consent removes the student's account and the record attached to it. Marks a Hub entered remain the Hub's own academic record, held by the Hub, as they would if HUBCV did not exist.

See everything on the child's account, including every mark, activity and skill figure, and the work behind each one.

Correct or challenge anything a Hub recorded, through the Hub that recorded it.

Export the record, or delete the account and the record with it.

Turn off the public profile so nothing is visible outside the child's own Hubs.
